JW Software, Inc., was started on January 2nd, 1989, by our company President Jim Wieland, in the basement of his home. Jim began writing custom business applications for small businesses in the St. Louis area. At this time, Jim found a niche in the insurance industry, specifically Third-Party Administrators needing Claims Management Software. After working on the development of a custom solution for a client, Jim recognized the need for this type of software solution in the market - and JW Software's flagship product, FileHandler was born.
Realizing that the product could be used by all Independent Insurance Adjusting companies, Jim began advertising the FileHandler product in national claims magazines. By the start of 1992, the company had 10 customers and hired its first employee. By 1993, the company doubled in size with the addition of 2 software developers who are still with the company today.
Innovations and technology drive changes and expansions at JW Software. The FileHandler product continued to gain notoriety and users in the market. With the added customer base, JW Software's commitment to Support and Customer Service continued to grow with the addition of a Quality Assurance Department to handle live customer support. The Quality Assurance Department handles customer support still today.
At the turn of the millennium, JW Software had grown and hired more employees and needed larger office space. The company relocated to a new facility that would accommodate growth for the years to come. The company still resides in this office space today but is currently looking to expand into a new facility.
Development had begun to rewrite the Windows version of FileHandler for the web. The latest architecture is .Net, still utilizing an Oracle or MS SQL backend.
In May of 2004, the company held its first annual user group conference. The direction, functionality, core updates, and usability of our products, come from user feedback provided at the conference. Every year, the three-day conference takes place in Las Vegas, Nevada, and offers JW Software users the opportunity to meet face-to-face with JW software employees. During the conference, 50 plus people work to provide information and feedback to evolve the next release of FileHandler and PolicyHandler™.
Development of the first release of PolicyHandler™ had been completed. PolicyHandler™ is a complete policy management system for Workers’ Compensation, designed to support all phases of the policy lifecycle. PolicyHandler™ and FileHandler™ can be combined in one database to form a seamless integration for our clients.
At the beginning of 2016 JW Software began the development of the next evolution of the FileHandler Claims Management Software, called FileHandler Enterprise™. FileHandler Enterprise™ enhances the functionality from the legacy system while adding new dashboards, reporting functionality, business intelligence tools, and improved security.
